FedEx Ground Names Entrepreneurs of the Year

FedEx Ground has announced one of its highest honors for three entrepreneurs whose businesses provide package delivery services for the company. Steve Crawford (Steve Crawford Trucking , St. Louis, Mo. – linehaul), Bruce Eucce (Bruce Eucce Transportation, Ventura, Calif. – Ground division) and Nicole Huffman (A.R. Huffman, Inc., Dayton, Ohio – Home Delivery) were named FedEx Ground Entrepreneurs of the Year for their business development, customer service results, safety record and community support.

Steve Crawford Trucking is a contracted delivery agent for FedEx Ground’s St. Louis hub. His first business only netted a few thousand dollars and now Steve Crawford Trucking is fast approaching $2 million in gross settlement.

Bruce Eucce Transportation serves as a contracted delivery agent for FedEx Ground in its Bakersfield station And A.R. Huffman, Inc has a proprietary delivery area that includes Springfield, Ohio and Richmond, Ind. And owner Nicole Huffman becomes the first female-owned business to earn FedEx Ground Entrepreneur of the Year honors.


Greatwide Logistics Services Announces Drivers of the Year

Greatwide Logistics Services, a national provider of third-party logistics services, today announced the winners of its 2009 Driver of the Year awards. The company named Bill Hill of Upper Marlboro, Md., Company Driver of the Year, while Gordon Johnson of Delaware, Ohio, earned Owner-Operator of the Year honors. Both drivers were recognized in ceremonies held at their local operations centers.

“Our drivers are the cornerstone of our business, and these two professionals exemplify a level of dedication and commitment to excellence that makes them the best of the best,” said John Simone, president and chief operating officer, Greatwide Logistics Services. “We commend Bill and Gordon for their extraordinary service and congratulate them on being named Greatwide’s Drivers of the Year.”

Greatwide chose Hill and Johnson from 31 finalists for Driver of the Year selected out of a pool of nearly 4,000 drivers based on impressive driving records, high levels of safety performance and outstanding character. Along with Driver of the Year honors, each driver was awarded a cruise for two, a week’s worth of wages and a special Super Bowl-style ring. Additionally, all nominees received a commemorative jacket and watch, as well as a Driver of the Year nominee equipment decal.

Hill has been a professional driver for 30 years, and has traveled 2.25 million accident-free miles during his career. He typically drives a route from Greater Washington, D.C., to the New York metropolitan area, a round trip of 500 miles. Hill says patience is the key to safe driving.

Johnson has been driving professionally since 1971, covering more than 3 million accident-free miles in 39 years. His usual route takes him throughout the Ohio Valley. LinkAmerica Transportation Once Again Receives Top Level Certification as a SmartWay Transport Partner

LinkAmerica Transportation, a “Best In Class” transportation solutions provider, was recently recognized for re-certifying at the Top Level Certification with SmartWay Transport. AmeriFleet Hosts Golf Tournament for Georgia Special Olympics

AmeriFleet Transportation, the Atlanta-based industry leader in total logistics solutions and transportation services to the fleet management and corporate fleet industry donated $10,000 to Georgia Special Olympics from the company’s fourth annual golf tournament in support of Georgia Special Olympics.

Contractors & Drivers of the Month Named at Prime

Driving associates in Prime inc.’s refrigerated, flatbed, and tanker divisions were recently honored for exhibiting exceptional service, safety practices, professionalism and productivity.

The following individuals were recognized in June for their outstanding efforts:

Refrigerated Division: Independent Contractor Michael T. Gagnon; Company Driver Cynthia Steadman-Patterson; and Team Drivers Glen R. King and Troy H. Lay, Jr. Flatbed Division: Independent Contractor Scott A. Augustine and Company Driver Charles Plant. Tanker Division: Independent Contractor Michael A. Tucker and Company Driver Tracy J. Vierhout.

“Each division looks for associates and drivers who have performed well in terms of fuel cost, accident history, on-time performance, log history, and other factors,” said Don Lacy, Prime inc. director of safety. “I know these driving professionals are proud to be honored and we’re pleased to have them here at Prime.”

Each honoree receives a Contractor/Driver of the Month Certificate, a voucher for $25 to purchase a custom-embroidered shirt at Prime’s company store and $100.  “The name of each honoree is added to the 2010 plaque in the Millennium building and will be eligible for an annual award at year-end,” Lacy added.

Transport America Receives Mid-Sized Carrier of the Year Award from Limited Brands.

Limited Brands (NYSE: LTD) in Columbus, Ohio, recognized Transport America for the second consecutive year as the company’s Mid-Sized (Class II) Carrier of the Year. Con-way Truckload Announces Second-Quarter Drivers of the Month

Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced the 18 winners of its Drivers of the Month recognition for the second quarter of 2010.

“These exceptional drivers demonstrate the utmost in professionalism every day, and they are truly deserving of this honor for their hard work,” said Randy Cornell, vice president of safety, Con-way Truckload. “We thank them for their superior performance and congratulate them on joining the impressive ranks of our Drivers of the Month.”

The following drivers were recognized by the company:

• Company Driver of the Month: Jose Hernandez joined Con-way Truckload as a student in 2006, and has since trained more than 20 students and driven roughly 505,000 miles. He currently lives in Eagle Pass, Texas, with his wife, Tanya, and their children, Emily and Joe. When he’s not on the road, Hernandez enjoys cookouts and spending time with his family.

• Company Team of the Month: Al and Jenn Sidwell joined Con-way Truckload in 2005 and have been professional drivers for a combined total of 28 years. The residents of Whipple, Ohio, have four children. They like to spend their free time fishing and riding all-terrain vehicles.

• Owner-Operator Driver of the Month: Thomas Rice began his driving career 34 years ago and started driving for Con-way Truckload in 1987. He has since driven more than 2.5 million miles. He currently lives in Arden, N.C., where he enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending time with friends.

• Owner-Operator Team of the Month: Stacy and Donna Moran have traveled more than 3.3 million miles for Con-way Truckload, with Stacy driving for the company since 1995 and Donna following him into the profession in 1998. Married for 26 years, the Granbury, Texas, couple has two children and five grandchildren. When they’re not driving, Stacy likes to fish, camp and ride his motorcycle, while Donna enjoys spending time with their grandchildren.

• Company Driver of the Month: Chris Bennett has been driving professionally for more than 23 years. Since joining Con-way Truckload, he has driven more than 310,000 miles. A resident of Alamogordo, N.M., Bennett spends his spare time target shooting, fishing and spending time with his father.

• Company Team of the Month: Richard Dyer and Richard Dyer II are a father-son driving team based in Charlotte, N.C. Richard began driving eight years ago, while Richard II has been a professional driver for more than nine years. Richard has two children, Richard II and a daughter, and Richard II has a daughter. When they have time off, both enjoy bass fishing and riding their motorcycles.

• Owner-Operator of the Month: Santos Rangel began his professional truck driving career in 1994 and has driven more than 1.2 million miles since joining Con-way Truckload in 2001. Rangel currently lives in Mesquite, Texas, with his wife and two sons. In his free time, he likes fishing and being outdoors.

• Owner-Operator Team of the Month: Sokphat Sao and Mom Prom have been driving for a combined total of nine years, with Sokphat joining the company in 2006 and Mom in 2007. Currently based in Lexington, N.C., the couple has four sons. When they’re not driving, they enjoy riding motorcycles and spending time with their family.

• Company Driver of the Month: Mark Corsaw became a Con-way Truckload driver in 2002 and has driven professionally for 12 years. Since he joined the company, he has driven more than 1.1 million miles. Corsaw lives in El Paso, Texas, with his wife and two children. In his free time, he spends time with his family and rides his motorcycle.

• Company Team of the Month: Lee Chapman and Bernard Richter have been professional drivers for three years and two years, respectively. Chapman is married and lives in San Diego, where he enjoys restoring classic cars. Richter, a former mortgage broker, is also married and lives with his family of four in San Diego. He enjoys flying planes and sailing.

• Owner-Operator Driver of the Month: Roger Parker has been driving professionally for 15 years. Since joining Con-way Truckload in 2006, he has driven more than 510,000 miles. A resident of Ridgely, Tenn., Parker is married and has a daughter. When he’s not on the road, he spends time fixing old cars and working in his yard.

• Owner-Operator Team of the Month: John and Sherry Hufford have driven more than 2.4 million miles since becoming Con-way Truckload drivers in 2000, and have been driving professionally since 1995. The couple has two children and one granddaughter, and resides in Bell, Fla. In their spare time, they enjoy spending time with their granddaughter and saltwater fishing.
